• The fact that the IAU has obtained the participatory status with the Council of Europe activities testifies to the increasing prestige of Ukraine and strengthening of its position on the way to the European integration.
  In January 2006 Ukraine was presented by two delegations at the PACE Session and the Conference of International NGOs of the Council of Europe — the Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada and the Delegation of the IAU.
• The IAU actively participates in programmes and projects of NGOs of the Council of Europe and has suggested to form Special Workgroup on developing complex measures for public counteraction to terrorism within the CE Conference of NGOs.

IAU ACTIONS at the COUNCIL of EUROPE

During the 2nd PACE Session (April 15-26, 2007) in Strasbourg, France, the IAU presented modern technologies of civil counteraction to terrorism under the title ‘State and Public Organizations – Partners in Fight Against Terrorism’. The Exhibition of children’s drawings ‘World Without Violence as Viewed by Children’, Press-conference on the IAU activities, the ‘Society Resists Terrorism’ book presentation were held at the Palace of Europe. The Ukrainian Parliament Members, Representative of Ukraine at the PACE, the European Parliament Deputies, the Council of Europe General Secretariat officials, journalists from France Press, UkrInform, UNIAN, Interfax, Radio Svoboda, ‘Golos Ukrainy’ newspapermen, TV journalists from Ukraine, Georgia, Estonia were present.

The IAU President O. Dichek took part in the work of the International Conference ‘Terrorism – Why?’ at the Palace of Europe (April 25-26, 2007), had a number of meetings with the leading specialists in terrorism counteraction: Philip Buaia, Peter Lizak, Peter Neumann, Rafael Benitez, Thomas Hammarberg (Ombudsman of the Council of Europe), Alex P. Shmid (Director of the Centre of Terrorism and Political Violence Studies), Marja Lehto (Chairman of Expert Committee on Fight against Terrorism), Anatoliy Safronov and others.
